Local Law Firm Spreads 'Joye in the Community'

North Charleston, S.C. (PRWEB) June 25, 2009 -- The people responsible for giving locals the chance to win $1,000 during the Piggly Wiggly Roundball Classic are at it again. Joye Law Firm, which created the Shoot Three and Win Basketball Challenge five years ago, recently unveiled Joye in the Community (http://joyeinthecommunity.com/)--a year-round program that encompasses all of the firm's community and service efforts.

Joye in the Community is designed to enrich the lives of everyone involved in the program and raise awareness about the needs of those in the Charleston and Myrtle Beach areas.

"Helping others isn't something we limit to an occasional Saturday afternoon," said Ken Harrell, managing partner of Joye Law Firm. "It's an ongoing commitment to the people we serve and to ourselves."

The program also encourages firm members to suggest organizations and events that have special meanings. For instance, the firm has donated more than $1,500 to the Charleston Animal Society's "A Furry Affair" fundraiser (http://www.charlestonanimalsociety.org/), which is an important cause to Tara Gerardi, a paralegal at the firm and a board member of the organization. Furthermore, the firm has sponsored dinners at the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Charleston since 2007, when one of the firm's paralegals was benefited by this organization while her son battled cancer.

Building a Stronger Community

For the 2009 Joye in the Community initiative, the members of Joye Law Firm have chosen Charleston Habitat for Humanity (http://www.charlestonhabitat.org/) as the primary beneficiary and have committed to raising $10,000 in financial contributions and volunteer hours for the nonprofit. To help meet this goal, firm members raised donations for their participation in the Park Circle Walk-a-Thon on Saturday, June 20. Firm members, along with friends and family, will help build a home in North Charleston on Saturday, August 8.

Tradition of Helping

Community service isn't an obligation to the members of Joye Law Firm--helping others just comes naturally. As a matter of fact, they've been giving back to their neighbors for more than 40 years. Members of Joye Law Firm team donate their time, effort, and support to local causes that include fundraising initiatives (http://joyeinthecommunity.com/past-events.php) to benefit the Coastal Crisis Chaplaincy, The Dee Norton Lowcountry Children's Center, and the Boys and Girls Club of the Trident Area, to name a few. In 2008, the firm donated more than $25,000 to local charities and organizations.
